By TLex Introducing the new Raketa Amphibia - straight from the famous Petrodvorets Watch Factory based in Saint Petersburg, Russia – which itself is close to three centuries old!
The Raketa Amphibia was specially designed by them for extreme diving under the ice. Its design is based on a vintage divers model from 1972 which has of course been significantly updated since then.
Technically the Amphibia corresponds to all the typical divers requirements: a steel case, a graduated rotational bezel to note time while diving, a Sapphire crystal and 400 meters of water-resistance.
Further divers features include: a screwdown crown that has a special lateral protection and a screw-thread, so that it may be used with a divers glove even when underwater.
The Amphibia is powered by the Raketa-Avtomat mechanical movement, which claims to be one of the most reliable watch mechanisms in the world and is one of the first new automatic self-winding movements to come out of Russia in 30 years.
The Amphibia poster (bottom) was created by Sergey Tatarskikh, a famous photographer from St. Petersburg.
The photo was taken in the severe conditions of the Leningrad region. The man on the poster is a known professional diver called, Konstantin Belousov.
The Petrodvorets Watch Factory, Russia’s oldest factory, was founded by Peter I in 1721. Today Raketa manufacture produces in-house all its own watch mechanisms from A to Z, including: hairsprings and escapements.
